Jan 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Japanese Carmaker Honda is going to recall a huge number of cars worldwide and it involves some of its most popular models like Jazz and City. This recall comes close in the heels of a massive recall by another legendary carmaker of Japan, Toyota Motors. Honda has issued a statement saying that it wants to recall the cars to check power windows switch malfunctioning. It has been alleged that if the window of some Honda cars are exposed to rain for a prolonged time, the switch can go awry, leading to fire. Honda has got few such reports and it does not want to tarnish its reputation. No such incident has taken place in UK so far, but Honda has decided to recall more than 170,000 Jazz models and refit them with a waterproof mechanism.
It is being estimated that more than 600,000 Jazz models will have to be recalled to fix this glitch. The customers in USA are also likely to be affected by the massive Honda recall. However, the Japanese customers of Honda will not be affected by it, as the company has said. Even Fit, known as Honda’s most popular model in Japan will be subjected to recall. The incidents of recall have put the two Japanese car-makers in tight spot, the auto industry veterans feel. This comes at a bad time for Honda and Toyota.
Rival US based automakers may try to gain from the developments. In fact, GM has already offered an exchange and incentive scheme for the disgruntled Toyota owners. Ford does not have such plans for now.
