Tokyo, Oct 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Honda on Friday launched a rival version of Toyota’s Prius. The company launched the hybrid version of its popular Fit model in Japan.
This car has become the cheapest hybrid car in Japan. The car is selling for $19,000 or 1.59 million Japanese yen. Hence this vehicle is the cheapest hybrid car available in Japan. The regular Fit car is sold for 1.2 million yen or a little over $14,000in Japan.
Another hybrid car by Honda, Insight Hybrid was also offered at a cost less than two million yen, making it one of the cheapest hybrid cars in the country. In fact it is the cheapest hybrid car in the country after the Fit.
The vehicle was launched as a direct rival to Japan’s best selling vehicle since May 2009, Prius. The hybrid car from Toyota is selling at a cost not less than 2.05 million yen. However the sale of Prius in Japan slumped 14.2 percent in September compared to the same month last year. It is believed that the sale slumped because the Japanese government’s subsidies to encourage the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles expired recently.
The Fit vehicle can run 30 kilometers on 0.26 gallons of gasoline. Rising fuel prices has boosted the sale of hybrid cars.
