Himachal woollens get good response at ITF
November 27th, 2011 - 8:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS) Hand-knitted woollen products of Himachal Pradesh were much in demand during the India International Trade Fair (IITF) that concluded here Sunday, an official said.
Woollens like shawls of Kullu and Kinnaur, stoles, mufflers, socks, gloves, pullovers and caps were much sought after, director of Himachal Pavilion R.R. Patyal told IANS.
He said live demonstration of handloom weaving and embroidery on the Chamba ‘rumal’ (handkerchief) and Kangra paintings for the first time in the IITF helped projecting state’s skilled manpower.
More than 60 companies, government departments and cooperative weavers units from the state had participated in the IITF.
State-run Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corp also displayed its range of juices, jams, squashes and pickles.
Patyal said that a record number of 600,000 tourists visited Himachal Pavilion this time.
