Himachal to start 12 centres for ayurveda
September 8th, 2009 - 12:29 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 8 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh plans to promote ayurveda by setting up 12 ‘panchkarma’ centres in the state by December-end, Health Minister Rajeev Bindal said Tuesday.
“To promote the ancient Indian art of healing through ayurveda, the government would set up 12 panchkarma centres in the state. These nature-cure centres would start working by end of this year,” Bindal told IANS.
The hill state is following the Kerala pattern to popularise the concept of nature cure.
“Of course, the panchkarma centres would also lure health-conscious tourists, especially the foreigners. Six existing panchkarma centres would also be strengthened,” the minister added.
Bindal, who visited Kerala earlier this year to learn about ancient Indian system of treatment, said the southern state would also help the hill state in training ayurveda practitioners.
“Kerala would send specialised masseurs to impart training to local youth,” he said.
Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh attracted 9.37 million domestic and 367,000 foreign tourists last year. Kullu and Manali are the hot spots for tourists, followed by Shimla and Dharamsala.
