Himachal to provide potato seeds to Leh victims
September 27th, 2010 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 27 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh government Monday decided to provide potato seeds to rehabilitate the people affected by the recent flash floods in Leh and Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir, an official statement said here.
Earlier, the government contributed Rs.1.01 crore to the Leh victims.
“We will provide 2,000 quintals of Kufri Jyoti and Kufri Chandramukhi potato seeds free of cost to the flood-affected farmers of Ladakh,” the statement said quoting Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
He said the seeds were provided on the requests of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Dhumal said the government would extend all possible help to the farmers to resume their farming activity.
The Aug 6 flash floods in Leh claimed 183 lives and extensively damaged property.
