Shimla, Dec 15 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Thursday amended its industrial policy to promote pollution-free industrial units in the state, an official statement said here.

The state cabinet at its meeting decided to incorporate certain provisions of promoting environmentally sustainable industrial development, said the statement.

“The amended policy aims to promote cleaner production and adoption of environmental management systems. It discourages industries on the negative list and promotes public disclosure of pollution status at the units,” it added.

“The government would be extending all help to eco-friendly units in completion of formalities and establishment of units within the minimum possible period of time,” the statement quoting Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said.

The cabinet also granted concessions for extraction or exploitation of minor minerals from hillsides in Sirmaur district.

To attract more investment into the state, the government has set up “land banks” of more than 8,000 bighas across Himachal to set up information technology, electronics, textile and food parks and other medium units.
