Himachal Pradesh clears nine industrial proposals

Bharatiya Janata Party Shimla, June 2 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh government has cleared nine industrial proposals worth Rs.256.99 crore, including one of Essar Group, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here Tuesday.
“We have cleared proposals of nine industrial houses, including Essar Group, Paragon Knits, Gujarat Flour Chemical, UB Biscuits and Wind Turbine Equipment,” he told reporters.

The proposals were cleared at a meeting of the state-level single window clearance and monitoring authority.

“These projects would invite an investment of Rs.256.99 crore and generate an employment for more than 2,500 people,” he said.

The present Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has cleared 97 industrial proposals worth Rs.7,938.58 crore and 30 expansion proposals with an investment of Rs.975.53 crore in the past 18 months of its tenure.

“So far, we have cleared industrial investments worth Rs.8,914.11 crore,” Dhumal said.

Since the announcement of the special industrial package in January 2003 by the central government, the state has attracted investments worth Rs.35,667 crore through 11,404 industrial units, except the proposals cleared in Tuesday’s meeting.

Himachal Pradesh has 38 industrial areas and 15 industrial estates.

The ruling government in the state is attempting to get the special package extended to 2013, as announced originally.

The current package will expire in 2010.
