Himachal hotels booked for weekend bonanza
August 18th, 2011 - 4:02 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Aug 18 (IANS) The tourism industry in Himachal Pradesh is expecting a huge rush of tourists with an extended weekend as Janmashtami holiday falls on Monday.
Tourism industry representatives said Thursday that information centres and hotels across the state are getting a good number of enquiries, either for information on tourist places or for weekend packages on offer.
“Last weekend was excellent for the tourism trade. This weekend we are also expecting 100 percent occupancy for two days - Saturday and Sunday,” Vijay Sharma, deputy general manager of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, told IANS.
The corporation’s hotels, except for Holiday Home Hotel in Shimla and Ros Common in Kasauli, are offering a special discount of 20 percent on tariff.
The most sought after destinations are Shimla, Narkanda, Sangla, Kasauli, Manali, Palampur, Dharamsala and Dalhousie.
Gaurav Jain of Aamod, a private resort on the outskirts of Shimla and Dalhousie towns, said: “Of course, extended weekend means good business. These are the rare occasions in the hospitality industry. Our both ventures have been sold out more than 80 percent.”
Himachal Pradesh, known for its delicious apples and picture-perfect tourist spots, attracted 13,298,748 tourists, including 454,851 foreigners, last year.
