Shimla, July 1 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh received 34 percent more rain than the average for this time last month despite a delayed monsoon, the weatherman said Thursday.
“The state got 34 percent more rain in June. It got 126 mm of rain against the normal of 94.1 mm,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.
He said eight districts - Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Una - got excess rainfall while Chamba, Hamirpur and Kangra got normal rains. Sirmaur suffered a deficit.
Singh attributed the excess rainfall to predominance of western disturbances in the region.
The state’s agriculture and horticulture economy is highly dependent on rain as more than 80 percent of the area is rain-fed.
