Himachal bans plastic products from Oct 2
September 26th, 2011 - 10:58 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 26 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh has banned disposable plastic products from Oct 2, an official statement said here Monday. Packaged drinking water will, however, not be affected by the ban.
“After imposing a complete ban on use of recycled and plastic bags in the state, we now are going to ban use of plastic cups, glasses and plates from Oct 2,” Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said in a statement here.
Dhumal said strict regulations have been formulated to deal with people using plastic products.
He asked the central government to impose ban on use of metallic packaging material and other material being marketed in plastic packaging to check environmental degradation.
After imposing a ban on the use of all types of polythene bags made of non-biodegradable materials Oct 2, 2009, the state cabinet in January this year decided to include disposable plastic products under the ambit of ban from Aug 15.
However, on the plea of the traders, the ban was delayed for over a month.
Now, violators will be fined up to Rs.5,000.
