Heavy Engineering Corp bags Rs.7.42 bn order

Ranchi, Aug 4 (IANS) Indian public sector engineering major Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) has bagged a Rs.7.42 billion order, its largest so far, from the public sector Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a company statement said here Monday. HEC has bagged the order through a consortium with Mumbai-based Indian construction and engineering major Shapoorji & Pallonjee Group.

The statement said the work order relates to setting up new ore bedding and blending plant (OBBP) and base blending facilities at RSP, Rourkela. In March, HEC had emerged as the lowest bidder for the RSP expansion project.

The major equipment which will be manufactured by HEC are wagon handling systems that include wagon tipplers, side arm chargers, apron feeders, paddle feeders etc, crushing & screening equipment including reversible hammer crushers, roll crushers, and screens and yard equipment including twin boom stackers, bucket wheel reclaimers, stacker-cum-reclaimers, barrel type reclaimers, transfer cars and the like.

“The work order is a result of the dedication of HEC’s workers,” the statement said quoting G.K. Pillai, the company’s chairman cum managing director.

“We will make every effort to deliver the work order on time,” Pillai said in the statement.

The work order has to completed within 30 months from the date of award of the order, the statement said.

The company is presently engaged in execution of a coal handling plant at Nigahi Project of public sector coal major Northern Coalfields Limited (value Rs.1.35 billion) and ore handling plant of public sector steel major Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai (value Rs.2.02 billion).

HEC, one of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s dream projects, has been posting profits for the past two successive years.
