Chandigarh, June 11 (IANS) A Haryana village has become the first village in the state to shift to an urban power feeder line to ensure electricity supply on the lines of urban centres.

Now it will receive power supply from an urban electricity line rather than a rural one.

“Kachhwa village, about 10 kilometres from Karnal, is the first village in Haryana which has adopted a scheme sponsored by Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN) under which the village will be converted from rural to urban feeder for supply of regular and uninterrupted power supply on the pattern of urban areas,” legislator Sumita Singh said.

Under the scheme, the village panchayat has to bear the whole expenditure to be incurred on conversion from rural to urban feeder.

Over Rs.25 lakh have been spent by the village panchayat (council) to implement the scheme in the village, she said.

Those village councils which are desirous to adopt the scheme can approach local authorities to convert from rural to urban power feeders, she added.

Sumita Singh said that in villages, where the population of members belonging to Scheduled Castes is more than 50 per cent, the state government would give Rs.25 lakh to convert them from rural to urban feeder. Village Kachhwa also falls under this scheme.

Village headman C.M. Narang, who took the initiative to bring the village under the scheme, said the people of the village were very happy with the new scheme and over 3,000 consumers would be benefitting from it.

Power supply by urban feeder line is more regular than through rural feeders, electricity officials said here.
