Haryana to work out urban parking policy
May 24th, 2011 - 11:21 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, May 24 (IANS) Faced with the increasing number of vehicles in cities and towns across Haryana, the state government has asked a government agency to prepare a parking policy for the state.
Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati Tuesday directed Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to prepare the draft of a parking policy of the state in view of the rising number of vehicles and to decongest the roads.
Gulati gave these directions while presiding over the divisional development review session of Gurgaon division held through video-conferencing here Tuesday.
During the video-conferencing, she reviewed the implementation of developmental projects of the districts of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mahendragarh, Mewat, Palwal and Rewari falling in Gurgaon division.
The chief secretary said that after framing the draft of the policy, wider consultation would be held to give final shape to the parking policy of the state.
“The policy is the need of the hour due to the extension of Metro services from Delhi to various parts of the state and for the construction of multi-level parking in urban areas,” she said.
She also directed the Gurgaon administration to launch a traffic management campaign to bring discipline to city roads and remove traffic congestion.
