Haryana to set up own metro corporation
June 22nd, 2010 - 8:49 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 22 (IANS) The Haryana government Tuesday announced that it will set up its own Metro Corporation to extend the metro-rail facility to areas in the national capital region (NCR) falling in Haryana.
The move follows the extension of the Metro rail line Monday from Delhi to Gurgaon, adjoining the national capital.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told reporters here that apart from setting up its own Metro Corporation, the government also plans to extend the Metro-rail up to Manesar town, which has a big industrial base, 40 km from Delhi.
He said that Faridabad and Ballabhgarh would also be connected to Delhi through Metro rail. The government has got clearance for the same, he added.
Commenting on the Metro connectivity of Gurgaon to Qutub Minar in Delhi, Hooda hoped that the rail link will be extended to Central Secretariat in New Delhi in the next one month.
He said that metro-rail would be extended up to Indira Gandhi International Airport so that the check-in for flights could be done at Gurgaon itself.
