Haryana reduces stamp duty for defence personnel
July 21st, 2010 - 12:34 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, July 20 (IANS) Haryana has decided to provide one percent rebate in stamp duty to serving armed forces personnel and ex-servicemen from the state who purchase houses, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hoodaan announced here Tuesday.
Around 4.37 lakh serving and ex-servicemen would benefit from the decision. Currently the stamp duty is seven percent in urban areas and five percent in rural areas.
“We have taken this decision as an appreciation for the armed forces personnel as they have sterling qualities of courage, discipline, loyalty and implicit obedience of orders. They are the guardians of safety and honour of this country,” Hooda said.
“This rebate would be available for all serving armed forces personnel and ex-servicemen domiciled in Haryana. The facility would be available for the purchase of a residential house or dwelling unit only once,” Hooda said.
There are 2.8 lakh ex-servicemen and 1.57 lakh serving personnel in the armed forces from Haryana.
