Haryana paddy arrival in markets exceeds 3.83 mn tonnes
November 29th, 2010 - 8:15 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 29 (IANS) The six government procuring agencies have so far purchased over 2.46 million (24.26 lakh) tonnes of paddy in Haryana, out of the total paddy arrival of over 3.83 million (38.33 lakh) tonnes in the market this season, food and supplies officials said here Monday.
A spokesman of the food and supplies department said that Karnal district was leading in paddy arrival with over 6.56 lakh tonnes in the grain market.
This was followed by Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Fatehabad districts, he added.
Five agencies of the Haryana government and the centre’s Food Corporation of India (FCI) are engaged in procurement operations which started Oct 1.
The rest of the paddy has been purchased by private rice millers.
