Haryana makes speed governors compulsory
June 11th, 2011 - 11:52 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 11 (IANS) The Haryana government Saturday announced that it has decided to fix speed governors in all public transport vehicles as per rules.
A transport department spokesman said here that the maximum speed allowed for public transport vehicles will as specified by the government from time to time. A notification to this effect has been issued by the department.
“All transport vehicle owners have been asked to install speed governor of (Automotive Industry Standards) AIS 018 standard approved by the government of India. The vehicle owner must ensure having received a bill of the speed governor,” the spokesman said.
Busy national highways number 1 (Grand Trunk Road, Ambala-Delhi), number 8 (Delhi-Jaipur), number 10 (Hisar-Delhi), and number 73 (Panchkula-Roorkee) and number 73-A (Yamunanagar-Ponta Sahib) pass through Haryana.
He said that the permit granting authority in the state will ensure that the speed governor was fitted and fixed in all the transport vehicles and the official seal of the permit granting authority concerned will be put on speed governor in such a manner that it cannot not be tampered with.
He said that public transport vehicles without the mandatory official seal on speed governors will not be allowed to ply in the state.
