Haryana declares May 20 holiday for civic polls
May 10th, 2010 - 7:11 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, May 10 (IANS) The Haryana government Monday declared May 20 a public holiday in view of elections to municipal committees in some towns and cities.
A state government spokesman said Monday that the government has notified public holiday May 20 in the offices, educational and other institutes of Haryana government, boards and corporations situated in the limits of the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad and 10 municipal councils of Palwal, Fatehabad, Tohana, Hansi, Jind, Narwana, Thanesar, Narnaul, Sirsa and Sonipat.
It will also be a public holiday in all offices and institutions in the areas of 28 municipal committees of Naraingarh, Charkhi Dadri, Ratia, Sohna, Barwala, Jhajjar, Safidon, Cheeka, Gharaunda, Taraori, Assandh, Nissing, Shahabad, Ladwa, Pehowa, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Ferozpur Jhirka, Hodal, Punhana, Samalkha, Bawal, Meham, Kalanwali, Ellenabad, Rania, Gohana and Ganaur to enable employees of the above-mentioned institutes and offices to cast their votes.
The spokesman added that May 20 shall also be observed as holiday under Section 25 of Negotiable Instrument Act in private establishments, factories, commercial establishments and shops located within the jurisdiction of these municipalities.
