Hamilton to drive Massa nuts at Sao PauloOctober 21st, 2008 - 4:46 pm ICT by ANI
London, Oct 21 (ANI): British Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton, who is leading the drivers championship, has said that rival Felipe Massa will be more under pressure before his home crowd than he himself will be to win the championship.
Hamilton will take a seven-point lead into his Ferrari rivals Sao Paulo stronghold in their championship showdown on Sunday, and warned last night to Felipe Massa: Youll go nuts in Brazil before I do!
And Hamilton reckons the intensity of trying to win the Formula One title in front of his own fans could prove too much for Massa, The Sun reported.
There will be lots of pressure on him for sure. When I was at Silverstone there was a lot of pressure on me. He will feel the same. Regardless of how positive you feel being in your home country it is still a tremendous amount of pressure to have on your shoulders, Hamilton said.
The whole country is relying on you. Not having my whole country in my face will be easier. But my family will be there and at a racetrack the support of my family goes beyond any crowd. Just having my mum, dad, brother there. That support is far greater than 100,000 in a stadium.
And Hamilton added: It really is who can stand the pressure most and who is the strongest.
That is what makes the world champion who is most competitive, who is strongest mentally and who has the whole package. It will be a case of the best man wins. I just hope it is a straight race.
Hamilton needs only to finish fifth or better to become the youngest champion in history following his Chinese take-away in Shanghai on Sunday.
And he would be the first Brit since Damon Hill 12 years ago to win the drivers crown.
But Massa who has to finish in the top two to stand any chance of snatching glory has an even longer period of expectation to end.
F1-mad Brazil have not had a world champ since Ayrton Senna won the last of his three titles in 1991 driving for Hamiltons McLaren team. (ANI)
