Gujarat farmers to get subsidy for energy-efficient pumpsJuly 23rd, 2008 - 10:27 pm ICT by IANS
Gandhinagar, July 23 (IANS) The Gujarat government Wednesday announced a scheme to provide 50 percent subsidy to farmers who switch to energy-efficient water pump sets. The scheme was being implemented on an experimental basis in five sub-districts, government spokespersons Jaynarayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel told mediapersons.
Any farmer who purchases a high-quality pump set recognized by the Gujarat Energy Development Authority (GEDA) will get 50 percent subsidy from the state provided he deposits his old pump set, Vyas said.
After the Krishi Mahotsav or agriculture festival in June, Chief Minister Narendra Modi had envisioned a second green revolution on the energy front and the subsidy scheme was a step in that direction as it will not only help in increasing agriculture production but also help in conserving energy, Patel said.
