Jammu , July 11 (ANI): Governors Rule has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad submitted his resignation without facing floor test in the Assembly.

Azad resigned on Monday following the Amarnath land transfer row.

Earlier, in his emotionally charged speech in the Assembly, he had stated, I am satisfied with my work. The motive I came with, I have largely achieved it. I don””t care who will be the Chief Minister. After spending life in serving the nation and party, I wanted to serve the people of my state. I have worked at a stretch for 20 hours.

The Peoples Democratic Party had withdrawn its support to the Azads Government over the Amarnath land transfer row and reduced his Government to a minority.

The PDP withdrew its support to the State Government following an order of the Chief Minister of transferring 39 hectares of forestland to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

The PDP opposed the Chief Ministers order. Party President Mehbooba Mufti said, When the Government had promised of taking care of the pilgrims of the Amarnath, then why did it give this responsibility to the Amarnath Shrine Board. The Government should revoke its orders.

The State Government on July 1 revoked its order of transferring land to the SASB by taking all the responsibilities of taking care of the Amarnath pilgrims.

The State Assembly has been dissolved and the fresh Assembly polls in the State would be held in October as the term of the present House expires on November 2. (ANI)
