Government gives nod for jute packaging
November 16th, 2011 - 10:28 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) Bringing relief to over 3.7 lakh workers of jute mills and ancillary units, the government Wednesday approved the mandatory use of jute in packaging of 90 percent of food grains and sugar.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs made the announcement. Exempt from the order is sugar packed for export and sugar fortified with vitamins.
In case of shortage or disruption in supply of jute packaging material or in other contingency, the ministry of textiles will relax these provisions further up to a maximum of 20 percent.
