Panaji, Sep 16 (IANS) The Goa government will unveil by Sep 30 its ambitious universal mediclaim scheme in partnership with the ICICI-Lombard insurance company, Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said Friday.

The scheme, christened the Swarnajayanti mediclaim scheme, will cover all the 3.5 lakh households in Goa with five members or less in them.

“The MoU (memorandum of understanding) has been vetted and cleared by the law department. We are working hard to ensure that we can launch it on Sep 30,” Rane told reporters here.

The expansive scheme, reportedly the first to be implemented in any Indian state, covers eligible residents of Goa to up to Rs.60,000 for preliminary as well as secondary healthcare.

“Empanelled hospitals will be providing treatment to those covered under the scheme. Beneficiaries will be provided with cashless cards for identification at the time of treatment,” Rane said.

The scheme was first announced by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat while presenting the budget earlier this year.
