GM Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles Due To Fire Risk!

A million and a half vehicles are being recalled by General Motors, because of concerns that a heated windshield wiper system can overheat and cause a fire.

A previous recall in 2008 was due to the same feature, which caused the dealers to install new wiring on the automobiles.

GM has announced that they cannot fix the wiper design this time, however, because the company which made the wiper system called ‘Micro-Heat’ is no longer in business. When GM with held payments during the first recall, Micro Heat was forced into bankruptcy, and their assets were liquidated.

Five reports of fire have been turned in to the car manufacturer, but so far there have been no reports of injuries or crashes due to the problem. The recall involved GM SUVs as well as trucks which were made from 2006 to 2009. Customers will be given a $100 payment for their troubles, and GM will disable the dangerous systems, taking away an included feature.

Of those automobiles which were recalled are the following, as reported by the Detroit Free Press - “…Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2; the 2008-2009 model year Buick Enclave and Cadillac CTS; the 2007-2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Saturn Outlook and the 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse.”
