_48024813_gmcadillacescalade US based automobile giant General Motors has announced that it will recall approximately 1.5 million cars made in 2006 to 2009 and some trucks owing to the possibility of a fire hazard.

The culprit here is the heated washer-fluid system which can result in short circuit and fire. The GM dealers have been directed to immobilize the heated washer-fluid system altogether. Each of the car buyers would be given $100 to make up for that.

Henceforth the company will immobilize the heating mechanism in models like Hummer, Cadillac, Buick and some other popular models. The feature would no longer be available.

The recall fiasco this year started with Japanese carmaker Toyota and Honda motors followed in its steps. A few days back another US carmaker Chrysler issued a recall.

GM is the latest entrant to the bandwagon. The disputed heated windshield washer was provided by a company named Micro-Heat Inc. It was recalled earlier in 2008. The car maker got 5 cases of fire caused by the system last year.

The supplier filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and the new GM cars come without the system. GM spokespersons said that the $1000 refund is being offered since the feature will not be available and not owing to the recall.

GM said on its part that the customers who own the cars that are being affected by this recall will get letters with details about the recall by this month. However, they can also contact the dealers on their own. So far no crash or casualty has taken place from the defect in GM cars.

All of affected cars have been sold in the USA.
