gmJan 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The problem that Toyota Motor Corporation is facing has given its rival GM an opportunity to increase its customer base. A few days back the iconic Japanese car maker announced a massive recall of some of its vehicles owing to a sticking accelerator problem. It is going to affect several of the popular models of Toyota and the company may have to recall almost 2.3 million cars. GM which used to be the leading carmaker of USA before the position was snatched by Toyota has decided to use this situation to its advantage. It is offering various lucrative incentives and interest free loans to the owners of Toyota cars whose vehicles are going to be affected by the massive recall.

The GM representatives said that the company is reacting to frantic inquiries from the existing Toyota car owners. GM sees an excellent opportunity to expand its customer base and it has been trying to regain its position in the industry after emerging from the bankruptcy last year. The Toyota recall has come as an unprecedented boon for the Detroit based carmaker. It has been announced by the company that the offers will be continued till the end of February. Eight of Toyota’s models are going to be recalled shortly.

While Toyota is yet to react to the announcement made by GM, it is clear that the recall is likely to tarnish the image of this company known for making safe and sturdy cars. The car industry is going through a crucial time with other carmakers promoting eco-friendly vehicles.
