Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The CEO of General Motors, the legendary US based car maker took the opportunity of a public appearance to take potshots at rival Toyota Motors, the Japan based carmaker. GM CEO Daniel Akerson slammed the much touted eco-friendly car Prius which is made and sold by the Japanese giant in various countries. He mockingly referred to the hybrid car as a geek mobile. He also praised the new electric compact car of GM, the Volt. The lashing out also indicates GM is back in the league of the big players in the car industry and it has shed past the image of a recovering car maker trying to emerge from bankruptcy.
GM has been promoting the new Volt, an all electric car as the first eco-friendly car that is not overpriced and meant for the mass market. GM calls it “world’s first electric vehicle with extended range capability.” However, Prius is not the only rival Volt has to deal with. It will also have to battle it out with Nissan Leaf which has been getting rave reviews. The CEO of GM, Daniel Akerson also pointed out in his speech how the company has made a turnaround and resurrected itself. The company said at the beginning of this month that the sales of 4 brands owned by it have witnesses a 22 percent growth.
The GM CEO also expressed his gratitude to the U.S. residents for bailing out the company at the most crucial time. He stressed on the fact that the company needs to retain the talents to prosper and proceed in the highly competitive industry.
