Girls in skimpy summer outfits cause men to crash cars
July 30th, 2010 - 1:01 pm ICT by IANSLondon, July 30 (IANS) Men are more likely to be involved in a car accident in summer as they are distracted by girls in skimpy outfits, a survey has revealed.
As many as 29 percent of male drivers admitted that girls wearing miniskirts and brief tops during summer made it difficult for them to keep their eyes on the road, the Daily Express reported Friday.
The survey of more than 1,300 motorists found that 25 percent of male drivers have had at least accident or a near-miss in the summer in the last five years, compared with just 17 percent of women respondents.
“Research shows men are far more easily distracted behind the wheel than women,” behavioural psychologist Donna Dawson was quoted as saying.
“Distractions such as billboards or an attractive woman walking down the street can quickly take their attention away from driving. Testosterone also plays a part as it makes men more prone to aggression, especially when frustrated by a confined space such as a car - and men are quicker than women to expose such irritability in hot weather,” Dawson explained.
According to Sheilas’ Wheels car insurance which commissioned the survey, men made 16 percent more insurance claims than women drivers between last June and August.
Also, barely three percent of women confessed to being distracted by men’s summer outfits while driving.
Jacky Brown of Sheilas’ Wheels said: “In the age of air conditioning, you might expect all drivers to be equally chilled out in summer, but men are significantly more likely than women to claim.”
