January 5th, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) Chinese mobile handset maker G’Five Mobiles Wednesday said it will launch 3G-enabled phones and smartphones priced below Rs.5,000 to give competition to the established players in the Indian market. “We will launch four-five 3G handsets and smartphones in this quarter. They will be below Rs.5,000,” Arshit Pathak, managing director Kingtech Electronics India Private Ltd, a group company of G’Five International, told reporters here.
The company is also planning to set up a research and development unit in India. “We are looking towards making an investment into research and development within an year,” said Pathak.
G’Five is also exploring possibilities of launching tablets and netbooks at competitive prices in the Indian market, he added.
The company was recently reported to have 10.6 percent market share in terms of shipments for the quarter ended Sep 30, 2010, leaving behind established players such as Samsung, by advisory firm IDC’s India quarterly mobile handsets tracker, 3Q 2010.
G’Five sold almost 10 million mobile handsets in India in 2010.
Pathak also said that G’Five is planning to set up a manufacturing unit in India and is in talks with the government regarding the incentives.
