New York, June 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) General Motors has issued a recall for more than 50,000 Cadillac SRX vehicles in North America. The automaker issued the recall because the airbags installed at the passenger side of the vehicle does not perform in the way that it should- or as has been inscribed in the user manual.

The recall was announced on Friday. 47,401 of the affected vehicles were sold in the United States with the remaining sold in Canada and Mexico. The affected brands are all 2011 models. Currently there has been no reported accident or injuries because of the problem, the automaker said. 50,500 vehicles have been recalled.

US federal safety standards mandate that every vehicle should work according to the information contained in the user manual. That is the main reason why the vehicles are being recalled, according to GM. In the user manual, the manufacturers say the airbag at the passenger side will deploy whether the seat is occupied or not. However in reality, the vehicle’s motherboard has been programmed to eject the airbags only when a passenger is occupying that seat.

GM plans to solve the problem by reprogramming the vehicles’ software. The company announced that the recall only affects vehicles which were sold in North America.

The SRX model is among the top selling brands of GM in North America.
