GM Bob Lutz New York, Mar 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) General Motors’ Bob Lutz is going to retire on the 1st of May 2010. He was instrumental in almost a complete overhaul of the company. After his illustrious career at the General Motors, the 78-year-old Lutz is going to be sorely missed by all. Besides General Motors, he also worked with three other top-notch automakers at very senior positions, during his career.

“My work here is done,” the 78-year-old Bob Lutz, said at the Geneva Motor Show on Wednesday. Prior to his career as an automaker executive, he was a former US Marine aviator, and he has also crashed his private helicopter at the Michigan too. His time at GM has been full of news worthy moments, but when GM filed for bankruptcy, then his role diminished quite a lot. He was thinking about bidding adieu to the company in 2009, but had to stay on, as the CEO Fritz Henderson asked him to take charge of the GM’s Marketing efforts, as the recession was ending, and GM had also exited the bankruptcy protection.

However this particular arrangement didn’t last long, as the CEO Fritz Henderson was shown the door in December 2009. He was succeeded by Ed Whitacre, who curtailed Bob Lutz’s marketing duties, and instead made him a ‘special adviser’. This was an ambiguous post that left Lutz no option, but to call it quits.
