Fruit, vegetable production increases
March 4th, 2011 - 7:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Vegetable and fruit production saw remarkable increase in the current fiscal as compared to the previous one, the Rajya Sabha was informed Friday.
During the 2010-11 fiscal, the total vegetable production rose by 5.8 percent at 1,41,350 metric tonnes as compared to 1,33,545 metric tonnes during 2009-10, Minister of State for Agriculture Arun Yadav said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Fruit production posted a 4.8 percent growth with 75,770 metric tonnes produced during this fiscal as against 72,282 metric tonnes last fiscal, he added.
The minister also said that 0.69 percent of total production of fruit and 1.69 percent of total vegetable production was exported during 2008-09.
