New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) Delhi Metro will start operations to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh Thursday morning, with one train plying every three to four minutes during morning and evening peak hours.

This follows the extension of Metro services from Anand Vihar in east Delhi to Vaishali in Ghaziabad.

The frequency would be 3.5-4 minutes from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 5-8 p.m.

According to Metro, around 40,000 passengers are expected to travel on the section daily.

The Vaishali Metro route is an extension of the 35-km Dwarka-Yamuna Bank corridor.

Ghaziabad becomes the third centre in the National Capital Region to be connected to Delhi Metro after Gurgaon in Haryana and Noida, also in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati was to originally inaugurate the Vaishali line but she won’t be doing so.

Delhi Metro operates 56 trains. With the Ghaziabad line, this would go up to 58.
