Freeze on setting up factories in Faridabad, Panipat lifted
April 10th, 2011 - 8:31 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, April 10 (IANS) The Central Pollution Control Board and the ministry of environment and forests have lifted the moratorium on setting up of new industries in Faridabad and Panipat towns of Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Sunday.
Hooda said that the ministry’s decision follows the action plans for these towns being prepared by the Haryana Pollution Control Board (HPCB) for tackling pollution.
Faridabad and Panipat are two of the most industrialised towns in the state and this had led to increase in pollution levels in recent years.
Under the new action plan, industrial units will have to adhere to strict pollution and environment guidelines and will not be able to discharge waste without any check, officials said here.
Hooda appealed to owners of industrial units to come forward and conserve water bodies and ensure that only properly treated effluents are discharged from their units.
He said that the industry should be aware of its responsibility towards environmental protection and take appropriate measures for control of water and air pollution caused by their units.
The chief minister urged entrepreneurs to recycle and reuse the treated effluents and endeavour to make zero discharge a reality.
