London, June 29 (IANS) Britain’s famous luxury and Formula One car designer, Gordon Murray, has now come up with the design for an economical electric city car that would cost no more than 6,000 pounds to produce.
The design of T.25 unveiled Monday is being offered as the ultimate solution to “multiple urban mobility problems”. It is easily manoeuverable, narrow enough for lane driving, shorter length for end-on parking and small enough for two of them to fit into a normal garage.
It can carry three persons including the driver and measures 2.4 metres long and 1.3 metres wide. The flexible interior space can be adjusted for different uses, including stowage space of 750 litres. It will have a maximum speed of 80 miles an hour.
Other design features include wing mirrors integrated into the body to reduce accidental damage, an ultra-lightweight body to aid fuel consumption, independent rear suspension and a fuel cap that can be accessed from both sides of the vehicle, according to The Independent.
Gordon Murray promises the T.25 will be “a new British icon for the 21st Century.”
Murray is considered a legend in the British auto industry. Since 1969 he has designed some of the most successful Formula One cars ever produced, in addition to producing the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
