Former Tucson Defense contractor arrested for fraudulent tax returns
February 20th, 2010 - 2:09 am ICT by BNO NewsTUCSON, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) – A former resident of Tucson, Arizona was arrested for fraudulent tax returns in excess of $575,000 in Fort Worth, Texas, prosecutors said on Friday.
Michael T. McQuillen, 49, of Saginaw, Texas, was employed with various contractors for the United States Department of Defense. McQuillen allegedly filed eight fraudulent tax returns claiming over $575k. Before his arrest, he received refunds for two of the fraudulent documents totaling $155,986.
McQuillen was charged with two counts of presentation of false claims to the IRS and could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison for each count. However, the sentence could be increased by the judge due to the amount of money and based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
