Former Dearborn employee sentenced for accepting bribes
February 26th, 2010 - 12:50 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )DETROIT, MICHIGAN (BNO NEWS) – A former employee of the City of Dearborn Building and Safety Department was sentenced on Thursday to two years (24 months) in prison for accepting bribes in return for issuing permits without charging the required fees, according to prosecutors.
Wanda Smith, 42, accepted over $15,000, as well as discounted repairs to her home and car in return for issuing over 1,000 permits between 2006 and 2009. She didn’t charge any fee, neither the required fee nor a reduced one.
The sentence will be followed by 2 years of supervised release and she was ordered to pay $29,000 in restitution.
