Ford’s domestic sales up 11 percent
December 1st, 2011 - 6:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) American automobile major Ford’s Indian subsidiary Thursday reported an increase of 11 percent in its domestic sales for the month of November at 8,322 units from 7,504 units in the like period of last year.
“We are nearing the end of a positive year where we continue to see strong customer acceptance of our brands and we are selling more despite challenging market conditions,” Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India, said in a statement.
The company exported 1,769 units in the month under review and added three more export markets — Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia. The company now exports to 30 countries from India.
“It is great to see the Figo exported to 30 international markets,” said Boneham.
The company further said that it will showcase new vehicles during Delhi Auto Show slated for January.
Meanwhile, the other American automaker General Motors’ November sales increased marginally to 8,440 units from 8,376 units in the like period of 2010.
The company said that its sales for the month under-review were led by its hatchback car Beat’s diesel variant. Both the versions of the car accounted for 4,605 units sold in last month.
“We have been able to sustain the growth primarily due to the encouraging response to Beat,” P. Balendran, vice president of General Motors India, said in a statement.
According to the company, sales remained low due to high interest, fuel cost and rising inflation.
