Washington, June 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ford Motors has announced that they will stop the production of their North American Ford Ranger on the 22nd of December 2011 bringing to an end 28 years of production. Ford however announced that its international Rangers will still be produced. The vehicles will not be sold in the United States.

Ford Ranger was introduced in the United States in 1982 to replace the then successful truck Ford Courier which was built by Japan’s Mazda. Ford does not plan to replace the US Ford Ranger with another truck after the production is stopped. Over the years, though there have been no significant changes in the shape of the truck, there have been some improvements. The significant improvement has been done to the engine.

A larger 2.5 liter DOHC standard four-cylinder V6 engine has now been replaced with the conventional ones.

Ford plans to concentrate on the production of its international Ford Rangers. Ford sells the trucks in several markets excluding the United States. Markets like Brazil, Australia, Asia and Europe are targeted. The truck was first introduced last year.

Ford says their decision to halt the production of the North America Ranger is due to low sales.
