March 24th, 2011 - 2:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 24 (IANS) India’s annual rate of food inflation rose to 10.05 percent for the week ended March 12 — after three straight weeks of decline, official data showed Thursday.
Food inflation, which was on a downtrend since early March, was registered at 9.42 percent for the week ending March 5.
Limited data on the wholesale price index released by the commerce and industry ministry also showed a spike in the index for primary articles which rose from 12.31 to 13.53 percent for the week under review, while that for fuel remained unchanged at 12.79 percent.
India’s inflation rate continues to remain sharply higher than the comfort zone of both the Reserve Bank of India’s 4-5 percent and the government, which earlier said the prices will be reined in to no more than 5 percent.
