New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) After two clear days, dense fog covered many parts of the national capital early Wednesday. But the fog spared the airport and flights were not disrupted, an official said.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the visibility was 100 metres at 7 a.m. It rose to 400 by 9 a.m.

“There was dense fog in the morning which lowered the visibility level. However things improved once the day advanced,” an IMD official said.

Unlike the weekend gone by when the fog wreaked havoc with flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, flight operations were normal Wednesday.

“The visibility was alright for flights to continue normal operations. There were no disruptions because of the fog this morning,” an airport official said.

The fog was thickest above and around the Yamuna river which passes through the eastern part of the capital, and commuters had a tough time getting to work.

The minimum temperature was a notch below average at 5.1 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to hover around 21 degrees Celsius.
