New Delhi, March 13 (IANS) The Indira Gandhi International Airport here Thursday reported near normalcy in operations with most flights operating on time, as Airport Authority of India (AAI) employees’ strike failed to make any impact on the second day. According to an airport official, international flights landed and took off without delay throughout Wednesday night.
Passengers, however, were harried. There was a shortage of baggage trolleys at the arrival terminal, said a passenger who arrived from Mumbai early Thursday morning.
AAI employees continued their demonstrations and protests against the scheduled closure of the existing airports at Hyderabad and Bangalore airports after the new greenfield projects there become operational.
AAI Employees Union general secretary M.K Ghoshal told IANS that they would continue the agitation till the government allows “commercial activities” at the two existing airports even after the new airports in the two southern metros start functioning.
The employees’ unions have not been invited for talks so far.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel Wednesday said that under an agreement with the developers of the new airports, the government was obliged to close down all commercial civil aviation operations at the existing airports at Bangalore and Hyderabad.
