Noida, April 22 (IANS) Five factory workers sustained burn injuries and goods worth over Rs.30 million were destroyed after a major fire broke out in a factory in Noida, adjoining Delhi. The incident occurred at 1.45 p.m. Tuesday at D-41 Hosiery Complex Phase II Noida where two firms - Pacific Garments and Madhur Softsole (P) Limited - were running their business. The factory owner, Rakesh, was away at Singapore on a business trip.
According to Chief Fire Officer I.S. Soni, a call was received from the factory’s security guard following which eight fire tenders were pressed into service.
Fire tenders were called from Greater Noida and Ghaziabad to control the fire. It took them over three hours to douse the flames.
Five factory workers - Nand Lal, Parasuram, Hari Kishan, Moti Lal and Purshottam - sustained burn injuries and were rushed to Kailash Hospital where the condition of Nand Lal and Hari Kishan is said to be critical.
Solvent, which is a highly inflammable material, was stored in the basement and it caught fire.
