Financial benefits for labourers in Delhi hiked
February 7th, 2012 - 12:09 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) Construction workers in Delhi are set to get a hike in their financial benefits as the Delhi government Monday decided to implement the recommendations of an expert committee set up to examine their situation.
“The government has accepted the recommendations which seem to be justified and rational. The benefits are being enhanced to bring them to a realistic level so as to make the schemes more meaningful and helpful,” Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
The benefits will be applicable to all registered building and other construction workers and the expenditure will be borne out of the cess fund of the Building and Other Construction Workers Board.
Among the benefits are hiking maternity benefits for women labourers from Rs.1,000 to Rs.10,000, and increasing pensions from Rs.150 per month to Rs.1,000 per month.
Further, the pensioners were being granted Rs.10 more for every completed year of service beyond 5 years will now get Rs.100 for every completed year.
The advance for purchase or construction of house will be increased from Rs.50,000 to Rs.150,000, while the disability pension is being increased from Rs.150 per month to Rs.1,000 per month.
Further, ex-gratia payment amounting upto Rs.5,000 being given presently will be enhanced to a maximum of Rs.25,000.
