Mamata Banerjee Kolkata, July 2 (IANS) A delegation from industry lobby Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Saturday called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and proposed collaboration in areas like textile, food processing, and service sectors.

“There is a lot of hope that the new government…will do something which is unusual, which is investor friendly. We talked about the plans,” FICCI president Harsh Mariwala told reporters after the 40-minute meeting at the state secretariat here.

Mariwala said the chief minister discussed at length her plans to take the state ahead.

“We are very impressed by her enthusiasm,” he said.

“We will work together in the areas of cluster in textiles, in the area of food processing and also in the area of service and industry. We hope that we will start work very soon,” he said.

Mariwala said the federation could help the state in the health sector as well.

“We also talked about tourism. West Bengal as a state has not invested in tourism…but it has a lot of potential,” he said.

He said FICCI could play a role in developing ‘tourism bazaar’ in West Bengal.

“The last point we talked about is on FICCI-FRAMES… setting up FICCI-FRAMES in Kolkata for the Bengali audience. We also discussed this with (Bengali actor) Prasenjit Chatterjee,” he added.

FICCI-FRAMES is a business conclave in the entertainment sector. It is organised by the media and entertainment division of the industry lobby and regarded as the biggest of its kind in Asia.

FICCI Saturday organised its national executive committee meeting in the city, where a lot of investors from outside the state participated.
