Farmers warned as rains predicted in Haryana
April 16th, 2011 - 12:07 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, April 15 (IANS) Increasing the worries of farmers, meteorological officials Friday predicted that light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers could lash most parts of Haryana during the next two to three days.
In the wake of the forecast, Haryana government has advised farmers to take preventive measures to save their crops.
“Keeping this forecast in mind, the farmers of the state have been advised to make necessary arrangements to prevent any possible damage to their crops. Harvesting, threshing and other operations of wheat are in full swing in the state these days,” said director general (agriculture) Ashok Yadav.
“We are also taking preventive measures, to avoid any damage to wheat crop, on our end. Besides, the harvesting of mustard has almost been completed and that of gram is likely to be completed very soon,” he added.
Besides wheat arrival in Haryana has picked up, as over 3.32 lakh metric tones of wheat had arrived in various mandis (markets) of the state Thursday. Total wheat arrival has reached to the mark of over 8.20 lakh metric tones as of Thursday evening.
