Greater Noida, July 24 (IANS) Farmers here Sunday organised a “mind-purification” ritual for officials of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) as it was allegedly delaying returning land to farmers in Shahberi village despite a Supreme Court order.
“The government and Greater Noida officials have lost their mental balance and are unfit to think. We are praying so that the almighty gives them wisdom and purifies their minds,” said Ranbir Pradhan of farmers’ body Gramin Panchayat Morcha.
The hawan was held at a temple in Chhoti Milak village.
The farmers said they will soon submit a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil apprising her of the current situation in the region.
“It is disgraceful that despite the order of the highest court in country, Greater Noida is delaying the return of land to Shahberi farmers and are constantly speaking for the builders,” Ranbir said.
The Supreme Court July 6 upheld an Allahabad High Court verdict and quashed the acquisition of land in Shahberi village here.
The farmers also questioned GNIDA officials’ remarks that they will not allow any construction by the farmers on their own land. They claimed that once the land was returned to them, it belonged to them and the government had no right to interfere in the matter.
