sawest Washington, Feb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Federal Aviation Administration known as FAA, has launched an investigation into the activities of the SouthWest Airlines once again. And surprisingly this is the third such probe into the Dallas based SouthWest Airlines. This time around the investigation is into the safety directives of the company. A FAA spokesman confirmed the news of the investigation.

In this 3rd investigation by the FAA, the inspectors think that the Southwest Airlines and a Seattle-area repair station didn’t follow the federally approved procedures, when they carried out repair work on sections of the fuselage. Under the federal guidelines for calculating civil penalties, the Federal Aviation Administration could also impose a fine to the tune of millions of dollars, according to one official. “The cases are open but are still under investigation. So we can’t get into details about them,” said Lynn Lunsford, a FAA spokesman in Fort Worth.

A Southwest spokeswoman refused to comment on the investigation at all, and instead in their defense said that the airline’s main focus is safety. “All of our maintenance operations promote aviation safety by working in coordination with the FAA, equipment manufacturers and aircraft maintenance organizations in every effort to ensure that our fleet is maintained in accordance with applicable regulations and is aligned with best practice in the industry,” said Southwest’s Beth Harbin.
