Lucknow, March 23 (IANS) Demanding arrest of Ayodhya-Faizabad Development Authority (AFDA)’s former vice-chairman, who is accused of harassing an engineer and driving him to suicide, an engineers’ confederation here Wednesday threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Saturday.

The Uttar Pradesh Development Authorities Diploma Engineers’ Confederation announced it would stall work in developmental authorities across the state if a criminal case was not registered against Rajendra Singh.

Junior Engineer Anoop Kumar Bajpai committed suicide Monday by consuming poisonous substances at his residence in Faizabad. His wife Rekha and colleagues had accused Singh of harassing him and driving him to commit suicide.

“Engineers of various development authorities in Uttar Pradesh would go on an indefinite strike if Rajendra Singh is not arrested,” the confederation’s general secretary V.K. Singh told reporters.

“Earlier also, we had demanded an enquiry against Rajendra Singh for harassing Anoop Bajpai and other engineers. We had even written a letter to the chief minister and the chief secretary in this regard,” he added.

A day after Bajpai’s suicide, Singh was shifted to Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation as the additional managing director.

At present, Singh is facing a police enquiry over the allegations.
