‘Energy efficiency only way to fight soaring demand’July 8th, 2008 - 8:52 pm ICT by IANS
Mumbai, July 8 (IANS) The global energy demand will be double by 2050 and becoming energy efficient is the only way to fight problems like soaring demand and green house emissions that cause climate change, according to global energy management specialist Jean-Pascal Tricoire. “The world will need two times the energy in 2050 as compared to today and if dramatic climatic changes have to be nipped, a cut in CO2 emissions is a must,” Tricoire, chairman and CEO of Schneider Electric Industries, said here while speaking at an energy efficiency round table.
By becoming energy efficient, one can save up to 30 percent energy, which in turn “can help cut down future energy requirements and help bring down the CO2 emissions”, he said.
Tricoire said, “Energy efficiency is on the top of every CEO’s agenda” in today’s world. “The ever-increasing prices, energy scarcity and environmental impact, all are inevitable result of inefficient energy management,” he added.
Ernst and Young’s Chaitanya Kalia said research works indicated that available energy sources like oil and gas “will not be able to cover global needs after 2030 or little later. If there was any bigger source of energy for future, it is energy efficiency itself”.
